WE CARE MORE ABOUT SCORING THAN DEFENDING SAYS BRUNO

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

BRUNO FERNANDES said Manchester United must learn from their failure to beat Everton.

United led twice at Old Trafford but failed to see out the game, conceding a 95th-minute equaliser to draw 3-3 and drop two precious points.

“There are a lot of things to be very disappointed with,” said Fernandes, who scored a wonder goal to give United a 2-0 lead.

“We have been making so many mistakes in the last few games and we can’t keep conceding goals like that.”

The 26-year-old Portuguese international hinted that United put more effort into scoring than conceding. He said: “We have to be more focused, we have to have the same desire to score and to defend our goal. Every time we score goals, we have to show the same effort not to concede so we have to learn from this. It’s already happened a lot of times so it’s more than a little disappointing. You talk about everything that’s going on, but it’s about learning and making it better.”

Fernandes, hot favourite with bookmakers to win the PFA Player Of The Year award, said United conceding a third goal deep into added time from a long free-kick was unacceptable and urged his team-mates to improve defensively. “It’s really bad,” said Fernandes. “You can’t concede goals like that because they were a long way from our goal.

“We have to be more focused, we have to be ready and we have to be stronger. We have to defend our goal with everything we have.”

Everton scored with all three of their shots on target, while United found the net with three of their five attempts on target.
