FOUR THINGS WE LEARNED FROM...

- BY SIMON BIRD

NEWCASTLE have come alive thanks to two wins in their last three

League games – as many as they managed in their previous 13.

All three goals in their 3-2 win over Southampton came in the first half. Not since October 2015, when Toon beat Norwich 6-2, had there been a triple salvo before half-time.

Oddly, all six shots on target that day went in – Georginio Wijnaldum (above) scored four – and against the Saints it was three goals from four attempts that didn’t miss.

Miguel Almiron scored twice, bringing his total to four goals in his last 12 league games – the same as he had netted in his previous 55 appearances in the competition.

Saints have now lost five league games in a row for the first time since September 1998.

ROBERT SANCHEZ, having enjoyed loan spells at Rochdale and Forest Green Rovers, is enjoying life as Brighton’s No.1 goalkeeper.

The Spaniard, 23, had the unfamiliar feeling of picking the ball out of the net at Burnley when Johann Gudmundsson’s strike ended a run of 458 minutes without conceding.

IT is not often that Manchester United fail to win after going two up in a home game – Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Everton was only the fourth time in the Premier League.

It brought back memories of two high-scoring draws under Sir Alex Ferguson, in which United had also been two goals to the good.

The first was a 4-4 draw with the Toffees in April 2012 that saw United, 4-2 up, get pegged back by a late equaliser by Steven Pienaar (above). It allowed Manchester City to go top by beating their city rivals in the next game, and go on to win the Premier League title.

The other game was the 5-5 draw at West Brom in May 2013, Fergie’s last in charge

FULHAM’S 0-0 draw at home to West Ham was both an extension and an improvement of their dismal London derby record.

The Cottagers have now gone 20 Premier League derbies without tasting victory – but at least they kept a clean sheet for the first time since beating Tottenham 1-0 in March 2013.
