Put this jinxed TV show on ice

- Edited by FIONA PARKER

■ THE spate of injuries in this series of Dancing on Ice underlines the dangers of the sport – especially with some of the complicated routines the contestants are trying to pull off.

It is right that it should take a breather before resuming live shows later this month.

Hopefully, there will be no more mishaps on the ice and the remaining contestants will breeze through to the final. I can’t wait to see who’ll be this year’s winner. Jenny Pain, Chatham, Kent

■ It seems to be Dancing on Thin Ice for this class of 2021 who are dropping like flies.

With Sunday’s show cancelled maybe it’s time to just admit defeat and wait until next year now.

I understand why they wanted to go ahead with it, to give the viewers light entertainment on a Sunday evening so we can forget about all the doom and gloom.

But it hasn’t had the good luck Strictly did.

■ I think it’s probably time to wrap this series up. It’s in meltdown with contestants dropping like flies and no back-up celebrities left. The cancellation has certainly put a dampener on the whole show. And the pained expressions of Olympic champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean having to listen to amateurs with no ice skating expertise pass judgment on others is clear to see.

■ Ice dancing is very graceful and, when performed by competent skaters, is a joy to watch.

But I think far too much emphasis is placed on the extreme and dangerous aspect in Dancing on Ice, in particular the headbanger routine, which is simply too dangerous and should be dropped.

Ice is unyielding and it’s one thing to suffer a broken bone or two but taking chances with a person’s head is going too far.

■ I’ve only seen Dancing on Ice once and that was enough for me.

This, along with Channel 4 ski jumping show The Jump – thankfully now axed – have to be among the worst aired on TV.

I don’t know how such shows get insurance cover. It seems some celebs will do anything to get themselves air time and so they only have themselves to blame if or when they get hurt.

A Howard, Manchester

■ It’s no wonder Dancing on Ice is in trouble after the show’s bosses

brought in dangerous moves such as the headbanger, which was performed by Rebekah Vardy on last Sunday’s show.

I thought this was about ice skating not trying to entertain viewers with risky stunts.

There has been very little skating in this series.

Tony Osborne, Southampton

■ I thought it was a bit silly for Dancing on Ice to go ahead anyway. Ice skating is very difficult to learn for beginners, with high risks of having a fall.

Also, with Covid infection rates being so high there was always a high chance the contestants would go down with it.

Surely it’s time to call the whole thing off, not just Sunday’s show? Kim Lyttle, Warrington

■ Dancing on Ice has descended into a farce with all the celebs dropping out through injuries and Covid infections.

There’s so much filler and so little ice dancing it’s hardly worth watching. I feel embarrassed for Chris Dean and Jayne Torvill. Beth Arnold, Hants
