Enough is Enough: Takeaway Barlow

-

Not sure what we did to deserve two tracks from Gary Barlow’s latest album on

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

But even before he closed the show with the second one I’d been repeating the title of the first. Enough Is Enough.

Mainly in response to the annoying feedback and chitchat from the virtual studio audience which made large chunks of the show unwatchable.

But also in relation to some of the patchy entertainment served up by the normally reliable Geordie boys.

The less said about Stephen Mulhern’s gold shorts the better – although the fact that there happened to be a pair of gold trousers on hand for him to cover up suggested it was less a wardrobe malfunction, more a cynical ploy to create some social media noise.

Come on, Ant and Dec are better than that. Even Stephen Mulhern is better than that.

At least Harry and Jamie Redknapp helped provide some cheer with a suitably silly I’m A Celebrity… Get Out Of My Ear segment.

Sadly, nothing could rescue that End Of Show Show.

The lame and lazy set-up – that Ant had mistakenly booked an edible orchestra for Barlow rather than an incredible orchestra – would’ve been kicked out of an ideas meeting on SMTV.

Still, the fruit and veg backing band did remind me of the time I once saw Barlow performing alongside four massive plums.

Take That, Wembley Stadium, 2011.

PS: Re that TUI prize of a holiday “within the next two years”. Isn’t two years still pushing it a bit?

TREES will be planted around the world in honour of Captain Sir Tom Moore through the Trees for Tom campaign.

His daughter Lucy Teixeira, 52, hopes the initiative will result in a wood in Yorkshire and reforestation in India – both places close to Sir Tom’s heart.

She said: “Dad was happiest outdoors, walking and pottering in the garden. He loved wildlife and nature programmes.

“Planting a tree can create a lasting legacy.”
