Becks’ £5m cannabis skin products high
DAVID Beckham made a £4.75million paper profit yesterday after backing a skincare firm that uses legal cannabis products.
Cellular Goods made its London stock market debut after selling a stake to the ex-footballer’s investment vehicle, DB Ventures.
Its share price ended the day up 280%, valuing the company at £100million.
It means Beckham, who had invested £250,000, has a 5% stake that is currently worth £5million.
The firm uses laboratory-made biosynthetic cannabinoids to create skincare and athletic recovery products.
Susannah Streeter, analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said: “David Beckham’s backing certainly added a celebrity glow to its listed debut.”
For those of you looking forward to tomorrow’s Golden Globes, here’s why you shouldn’t be.
By far the worst show I have seen all year was a supposed comedy called Emily in Paris, filled with the saddest collection of French cliches since ‘Allo ‘Allo!, and about as funny as a night out with Chris Whitty.
Yet it has been nominated in two categories for the Globes. Which seems bizarre, until you learn that members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who voted in the awards, were flown to the set in Paris, put up in five-star hotels and wined and dined on the finest victuals. It’s par for the course.
As Ricky Gervais said of the awards when hosting in 2015: “They are worthless bits of metal that some nice, old, confused journalists wanted to give you in person so they could meet you and have a selfie with you.” Bear that in mind.
Even better, watch Emily in Paris. And you’ll probably never want to watch an awards show again.
COULD you become the heir to the phone?
The royals are hiring a new telephone operator to process calls to their various residences.
The successful applicant will be based at Buckingham Palace and help deal with 4,000 calls a week on the computerised switchboard system.
They will answer day-today queries and keep records of calls received.
The job advert says: “You’ll join a dynamic team at the heart of the Royal Household.
“Through structured training, you will learn to handle each call appropriately... and quickly become familiar with this unique and varied organisation.”
The starting salary is £23,000 plus benefits, including a free lunch.
