A second dose for teenage carer Ellie
A SCHOOLGIRL who works as a part-time carer has become one of the youngest people in the UK to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
Ellie Goldsmith, 16, works in a care home while studying for her GCSEs, which made her eligible for the AstraZeneca vaccine. She had her first jab in February and her second on Friday.
Ellie said she wanted to get the vaccine to protect herself and residents at the Yew Tree Residential Care Home in Dowsby, Lincolnshire.
Ellie’s grandmother, who she lives with, has a range of health problems.
Ellie, from Bourne, Lincs, said: “I just wanted to get the vaccine done so I could feel a bit safer, especially with my nan. “I don’t believe any of the conspiracy theories. “Working at the home is great... everyone’s so nice and really lovely so I don’t really see it as a job, it’s just really nice to work there. I love the residents and helping them.” She added of getting her second dose at the Grantham Meres Leisure Centre: “We were there really early so there were only a couple of people... I just feel really protected and safe.” Mum Emma, 36, added: “I am also fully vaccinated now... I am still wary but I’ve been able to relax a bit.”
