Delay for Duke news angered fans

MASTERCHEF fans will finally find out who has won the 17th series tonight on BBC1.

Many viewers were dismayed on Friday when the episode was pulled from the schedules following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

BBC bosses suspended all programming on the main channels in favour of rolling news to cover the death of 99-year-old Prince Philip.

But from 8pm tonight, after a five-day wait, viewers will finally see amateur chefs Mike Tomkins, Alexina Anatole and Tom Rhodes battle it out in front of hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode.

After six weeks of cooking up a storm, the three finalists must now produce the best three dishes of their lives in three hours. Whoever impresses the most will lift the coveted trophy. When

MasterChef was dropped on Friday, the BBC set up a dedicated form on its website after receiving complaints from viewers missing their favourite shows.

It read: “We’re receiving complaints

Mike, Alex and Tom with John and Gregg about too much TV coverage of the death of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Please enter your email address below to register a complaint about this – we’ll then send you the

BBC’s response as soon as it is available.” EastEnders was also replaced by news programmes and BBC Four was taken off air completely – leading to 100,000 complaints from viewers.

Alexina is the bookies’ slight favourite at evens, followed by Tom at 7/4 and Mike at 9/2. Mike, of Guildford, Surrey, loves cooking traditional Italian food with modern twists. When not in the kitchen he is a senior sales executive.

Cambridge University English graduate Alexina is Head of Frozen at Mindful Chef.

Tom, from Newcastle, is manager of high street chain restaurant Nandos. He loves to cook and bake and has impressed the judges with his “bold, daring and interesting” dishes.
