His sporting life will take centre stage

-

PRINCE Philip’s love of carriage-driving will feature poignantly at his funeral.

The four-wheel carriage the Duke designed himself will stand in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle alongside his two black Fell ponies.

He began using the polished dark green vehicle at the age of 91, mostly for riding around Windsor.

The ponies, Balmoral Nevis and Notlaw Storm, were both born in 2008, with the latter being bred by The Queen.

The Duke started racing when he was forced to give up polo at 50 due to his “dodgy” arthritic wrist.

In a book about the sport he wrote: “I have never lost the sheer pleasure of driving a team through the British countryside.”
