Moving forward from 32yr agony
Thursday saw the 32nd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.
Which means it’s now more than half a lifetime since I walked into Sheffield Wednesday’s ground to watch a semi-final, alongside 96 fellow fans who never came home.
The Hillsborough Family Support Group, which has fought, along with other groups, so valiantly these past three decades, has decided to disband because “we have gone as far as we can”.
Yet still the agony for the families and survivors goes on. Many of them will be in Liverpool’s St George’s Hall next week watching a live link from the final court case about the disaster as two former South Yorkshire police officers and a police solicitor are accused of perverting the course of justice.
Their courage in the face of relentless kick-backs has been monumental. I would love it if, when this court case ends, they finally have some closure.
