NOW EVANS IS A GOFFIN DODGER

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

DAN EVANS followed up his win over Novak Djokovic by beating David Goffin to reach his first Masters semi-final. The British No.1 had failed to win any of his last 10 matches on clay before arriving in Monte Carlo. But Evans (left) yesterday dug deep on the red surface to defeat the Belgian 5-7 6-3 6-4. He will now face world No.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas today in a bid to become the first British man to reach the Monte Carlo final in the Open era. “To come back today and back it up was probably the best thing about it,” said Evans.

Evans also reached the semi-finals of the doubles with Neal Skupski by beating Raven Klaasen and Ben McLachlan 1-6 7-6 10-4.

Katie Boulter said she loved the loud support of her team-mates after getting Great Britain off to a winning start in the Billie Jean King Cup play-off against Mexico.

The British No.9 overcame early nerves to beat Marcela Zacarias 7-5 6-0 in the behind-closed-doors tie at the National Tennis Centre in London. “It felt great out there,” said the world No.291. “It felt really nice having the team behind me and supporting with some noise and atmosphere.”
