Ole’s new vision for Reds will soon fade

-

PERIPHERAL vision is a valuable asset for players who can pick a pass, but I’m not convinced Old Gunnar Solskjaer’s latest innovation will help his Manchester United team.

I can fully understand his request for United to change the tarpaulins covering seats in the lower tier at Old Trafford from red to dark grey if he believes it helps his men pick out red shirts more easily. A manager will always look for the small details and fine margins that can make a difference to his side, even if the gains are only psychological.

But when supporters are readmitted to Old Trafford, most of the fans occupying those seats will be wearing replica red shirts anyway.

Solskjaer (above) will therefore find his solution to any visibility problem short-lived, at best.

Hand on heart, I can honestly say the background never made any difference to my performances as a player.

Most of my passes sailed straight into touch – whether I could see the team-mates they were intended for or not!
