Maddison ‘deserves a chance’

BRENDAN RODGERS hopes James Maddison hasn’t blown his big chance of going to the Euros with England.

Maddison (above), along with Ayoze Perez and Hamza Choudhury, were axed from the Leicester squad for last week’s 3-2 defeat at West Ham and forced to train alone after breaching Covid-19 regulations by going to a party.

And with England boss Gareth Southgate having just warned that off-field discipline won’t be tolerated, it looks bleak for Maddison’s chances.

Rodgers said: “I’m not picking the England squad, I only look at Leicester, but he’s very remorseful. There’s been a spotlight on James because he’s a huge talent. He’s a young guy who made a mistake.

“He made a wrong choice but you look to move forward. You can’t dwell on it.”
