ROWE’S BLOW A NEW FIRST DOWN TOWN

- BY JANINE SELF JONATHAN HOGG (HUDDERSFIELD)

AARON ROWE has enjoyed making a splash at Huddersfield but now he is doing it regularly in the first team.

Rowe made club history in 2019 when he became the first player born in 2000 to play for the seniors.

The 20-year-old Londoner, who signed with the academy in 2018, also starred at Under-19 level while his FA Cup goal against Plymouth earlier this season was a televised worldie – and his first professional goal.

On Saturday he claimed his first League strike as the relegationhaunted Terriers finally found their bite.

Rowe admitted: “It’s an amazing feeling. I’ve been dreaming about this moment for so long, to finally get the goal.”

His goal, just before half-time, paved the way for a crucial win which was cemented by Juninho Bacuna in the second half.

Young winger Rowe has been a success story in a season where Huddersfield did a brilliant impression of a club in crisis.

Manager Carlos Corberan received a vote of confidence last week and while he will not admit it, this win has virtually ensured Championship survival.

Corberan said: “What brought us this win is more confidence in ourselves. This is how we have to compete in the final four games.”

Unhappy Forest boss Chris Hughton ordered a big improvement for Wednesday’s trip to Birmingham, one of his former clubs.

He said: “We’ve got to make sure there is a reaction.”
