ICARDI PSG HERO WITH LATE SHOW

- BY JON WEST PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN

required a stoppage-time goal from Mauro Icardi to beat Saint-Etienne 3-2 and move to within a point of Ligue 1 leaders Lille.

Substitute Icardi (above, with Kylian Mbappe) headed home Angel Di Maria’s cross to cap a frantic final 12 minutes that saw all five goals go in.

Mbappe scored twice, including once from the spot, to overturn Denis Bouanga’s opener but Romain Hamouma made it 2-2 two minutes into added time. Icardi struck three minutes later to keep the title race on a knife edge. Juventus are in danger of failing to qualify for the Champions League after going down 1-0 at Atalanta in Serie A.

Ex-Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny was wrong-footed by Ruslan Malinovsky’s deflected 86th-minute effort.

That piled more pressure on boss Andrea Pirlo, who missed the injured Cristiano Ronaldo, with ex-Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata unable to convert a couple of decent chances.

Pirlo said: “It’s no coincidence Ronaldo scored 25 goals this season – he is our main finisher.

“When missing the killer instinct in the box, it’s slightly different.

“We still created chances though, so I don’t think it made that much difference.” Second-placed AC Milan needed a Gianluca Scamacca own-goal to win 2-1 at home to Genoa.

Boss Stefano Pioli, who was without the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic, said: “We wasted too many chances but it was an important win.”

Atletico Madrid moved four points clear at the Spanish summit by hammering Eibar 5-0. Angel Correa and Marcos Llorente both struck twice. The Bundesliga saw Erling Haaland score two goals in four minutes as Borussia Dortmund beat Werder Bremen 4-1.
