GOAL KING LUIS LIFTS ATALANTA

-

ATALANTA’S fantastic season continued as they thrashed Parma 5-2 to move back up to second place in Serie A.

The team from Bergamo took the lead in the 12th minute through Ruslan Malinovskyi, with substitute Matteo Pessina sweeping home the second seven minutes after the break.

Luis Muriel (above) took his Serie A tally to 21 goals for the season with two more for the league’s top scorers. They came either side of a Juan Brunetta goal for the hosts, with Simon Sohm adding another for Parma late on.

There was still time for Aleksey Miranchuk’s stoppage-time fifth.

Atalanta climbed back above Napoli into second on 72 points – two clear of Gennaro Gattuso’s side.

Cagliari emerged victorious from a huge relegation clash at Benevento, winning 3-1 to climb to 16th, four points clear of their opponents.

Torino also boosted their survival bid by earning a 1-1 draw at Verona to pull four clear of the bottom three, while Sassuolo won 2-1 at Genoa.

In the Bundesliga, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ajdin Hrustic rescued a 1-1 draw against visiting Mainz to keep alive their hopes of a top-four finish.

Karim Onisiwo rifled in a low shot in the 11th minute to put Mainz in front.

Frankfurt rarely threatened and had to wait until five minutes from the end when Hrustic’s first shot was blocked.

But the midfielder, lying on the ground, spectacularly chipped his rebound over the keeper for the equaliser.

Eintracht dropped to fifth place on 57 points – one behind Borussia Dortmund, 3-2 winners over RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Bayern Munich clinched their ninth successive league title with a 6-0 demolition of Borussia Moenchengladbach.
