Liam & Noel look back in archive
It’s official: Liam and Noel are back together! Well, kinda...
Warring Oasis brothers the Gallaghers have teamed up to executive produce a documentary about the band’s most famous shows – two nights at Knebworth in 1996, in front of 250,000 people.
The film will revisit the feuding brothers at the height of the band’s fame, a year after the release of their album (What’s the
Story) Morning Glory?.
A post from Oasis yesterday marking the 25th anniversary of tickets going on sale for the show called it “the gig that defined an era”.
It added: “The two days in August 96, remembered forever by 250,000 Oasis fans as one of the greatest rock’n’roll events to ever take place on British soil. The feature length Knebworth concert documentary, directed by Jake Scott, is released later this year.”
Noel – who Liam claims turned down a £100million offer to reform the band – has previously played down the idea the pair would have to bury the hatchet in order to work together again, saying the former band members are regularly required to collaborate independently on projects. “Oasis is a massive, massive business,” he said in March. “It’s never-ending – on a daily basis.”
Liam and Noel have been feuding since the band split in 2009 following a fight, ahead of a scheduled performance at the Rock en Seine festival.
And director Jake dispelled the idea the gang or any of their showbiz pals would be getting together for a trip down memory lane. He said: “It’s a story driven entirely by the music, a rock and roll experience, told in the moment, like a visual stream of consciousness that is built around the extensive archive footage from the event.
“No on-camera interviews or unnecessary celebrity recollections.”
Which sounds a bit dull to be honest, but Noel says: “We’d filmed it all really professionally with loads of cameras, we had cameras on the trains with fans.
“But for one reason or another, the film never came out. It’s a fantastic snapshot of a bygone era before the internet.”
