THAT’S well lush... James Corden has hinted there could be one final outing for Gavin & Stacey so fans can see what happened after Nessa proposed to Smithy.

Some 18 million viewers were on tenterhooks after the 2019 Christmas special ended just as Nessa, played by Ruth Jones, got down on one knee to James’s character Smithy.

Now James, who co-writes the show with Ruth, has suggested they could finally put fans out of their misery.

He said: “It certainly doesn’t feel like the end of a book; it feels like the end of a chapter.”

But it’s very much the final chapter. He added: “I think if we ever did another one that would be the end of it.”

He said there were no plans yet, but added: “That’s not to say there isn’t the want, or the inclination to do one.

“When we wrote that special we never really thought whether we’d make another one. But it’s so open-ended it would be a shame to leave it there. That’s certainly my feeling, and I think Ruth feels the same.”

The Late Late Show host, 42, who lives in the US and has shed 23lb thanks to healthy eating and exercise, said nothing could happen until he and Ruth, 54, were able to physically meet again.

He told Zoe Ball on her Radio 2 breakfast show: “We can’t write separately – they’re part writing sessions and part therapy sessions really.”

But even if they do sit down and write, they are likely to keep it quiet at first. James said: “With the last one, we wrote without telling anyone. We didn’t want to make anything that would let everybody down. So my hunch is no one will know if it’s coming until we’ve got it.”
