No sun fun for fans on Porto trip

-

6,000 fans each and they must all arrive on charter flights – expected to be at an eye-watering cost – and stay in two fan zones.

And supporters will not even be in the country for 24 hours for the showpiece game on May 29.

Portuguese Cabinet Affairs Minister Mariana Vieira da Silva said fans will be under strict rules after the final was officially moved to Porto.

“Those who come to the final will come and return on the same day, with a test done, in a bubble situation, on charter flights,” she said.

“There will be two fan zones and from there they will be moved to the stadium and from the stadium to the airport, being in Portugal less than 24 hours.”

Fans of both clubs had been hoping the game would be shifted to England

after the original venue in Istanbul was ruled out.

Turkey was put on the “red list” and fans were advised not to travel and told they would be subject to a 10-day quarantine.

But talks between the UK and UEFA could not reach agreement because of the number of staff, VIPs and broadcasters due to come.

UEFA moved it to Portugal where the country has been moved to the “green list” to make it easy to travel to and British holidaymakers have received the green light to go there this summer.

City are organising official club trips and fans were given similar instructions when travelling from Manchester to London for the Carabao Cup final last month.

But hopes of a pleasant trip to watch the final and also soak up the sunshine have been dashed.
