Takeaway worker is winner of top ‘dad joke’ competition
A CHIP shop worker has been crowned the winner of a Best Dad Joke competition.
Dad-of-two Austin May, 35, beat 2,700 other cringeworthy entries.
His winning joke was: “I hired a limo but when it arrived, the guy driving it walked off. I said, ‘Excuse me? Aren’t you going to drive me?’ He told me the price didn’t include a driver. So I spent £400 on a limo – and have nothing to chauffeur it!”
The fish and chip shop sales manager, of Bedworth, Warks, describes himself as a “fully qualified dad” to Harvey, 12, and Tobias, five. He won £100 in vouchers for supermarket Aldi, which ran the contest.
Comic Mark Watson, 41, who judged it, said: “The perfect dad joke has to be equal parts cringe and cheese – it’s got to make your kids embarrassed to be in the same room but still make them laugh. “I looked for jokes so bad, they were actually good.”
