Nicky leaves his breakfast
Radio 5 Live host moves to new phone-in slot after 19yrs
NICKY Campbell is leaving BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast after nearly two decades to host a new phone-in show.
Nicky, 60, will stay with 5 Live for the weekday 9am to 11am programme, which is an extension of his one-hour Your Call slot on Breakfast. He said: “It’s why I love 5 Live – hearing from listeners and talking to people about what really does matter to them and their communities.”
It sparks a search for a new partner for Rachel Burden, Nicky’s Breakfast co-host for the past 10 years. One internal option could be Drive host Tony Livesey.
The BBC said a replacement will be announced later. Nicky said: “Leaving Breakfast is really tough after so many unforgettable programmes with Rachel and the team. But I’ve been getting up at 4am for 19 years so it’s time I had a bit more sleep!”
Naga Munchetty’s and Adrian Chiles’s shows will be cut by an hour, to run from 11am to 1pm.
