5,000-yr-old find pot luck

-

FINGERPRINTS spotted on Neolithic clay belonged to two young male potters – about 5,000 years ago.

The imprints were on a shred of pot recovered from the Ness of Brodgar site in Orkney, Scotland.

It was part of the largest UK haul of late Neolithic grooved ware pottery.

Experts at Canada’s University of Manitoba said the ridges of the prints and their location gave an “unparalleled glimpse” into life at the complex and hand-crafting techniques.
