Tesco under fire for new Frenchie cake
VETS have blasted Tesco for using a dog breed plagued by ill health as the character for a party cake.
Its £11 Frankie the French Bulldog cake features a breed popular with stars including the Beckhams and Lady Gaga.
But Frenchies are known to suffer from breathing, eye and skin problems,
The British Veterinary Association has been lobbying firms to stop using flat-faced “brachycephalic” breeds for adverts.
Jemima Harrison, of the Campaign for the Responsible Use of Flat-faced Animals, said: “It may seem like it’s arguing over a cake but many French bulldogs are suffering.”
Tesco said its Frankie cake product would not be axed – although it was open to “feedback”.
