I had a 12lb baby girl with only gas and air
Mum’s incredible home birth
MUM Ayshah Maton was fully expecting daughter Eloise to be a huge baby – but the reality still came as a weighty surprise.
The not-so-little bundle of joy tipped the scales at 12lb, while the average newborn girl is 7lb 4oz.
Eloise is believed to be the second largest baby girl to have ever been born naturally in the UK.
Not only that... her brave mother only had gas and air for pain relief.
But mum-of-four Ayshah, who gave birth to Eloise at home, described the experience as “amazing”.
She added: “It was really positive. I think maybe it was because I knew what to expect because she was my fourth.
“But it was my first home birth, and it was such a different experience. It was so much more relaxed when you’re in a safe, familiar environment, rather than in a hospital.
“It’s much nicer birthing at home, because after you have your own food and tuck yourself up in your own bed.”
Ayshah, 34, who brought Eloise into the world on their living room floor, said that a couple of days later she was “up and about again and almost back to normal – just a little bit achy”.
She added: “It’s really amazing what the human body is capable of.”
The nanny’s second baby was 11lb 2oz and her third was 11lb 3oz, so she and accountant husband Gari were anticipating another large one. Ayshah, who
is 5ft 7in, said: “I don’t know how, but we just seem to produce big babies.
“I was expecting her to weigh around 11lb but she did surprise us a bit.
“I wasn’t worried about delivering her at home. I wanted to give birth naturally, and whatever size she was going to be wasn’t going to be any different at home.”
Ayshah was attended by two midwives.
She spent most of the labour in a birthing pool in her living room in Ashendon, Bucks.
Eloise, the mum’s first daughter, arrived on March 12, weighing 5.48kg, just a touch over 12lb.
Britain’s largest baby girl is thought to be Suzie Gzowski, who was born naturally in Swindon, Wilts, in 2012 at a hefty 12lb 12oz.
