HOSPITAL

BBC2, 9pm

-

Anna, 25, is just one of hundreds of patients who have been waiting for surgery delayed by the pandemic.

She had a horrific workplace accident when her hair caught in factory machinery, removing her scalp, and had 11 operations in six months.

Now, finally, the plastic surgery department at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is back up and running.

Plastic surgeon David Wallace says: “I’ve not done any routine surgery for

a year and a few months – we’ve just done urgent surgery. Patients have been in stasis and now it feels good to start work again.”

As the hospitals assess the aftermath of the pandemic and its long-term impact, we also meet Colin, one of the nine remaining Covid patients. He’s been in intensive care for four weeks, during which time his mum died there, but is hoping to go home soon.

Elsewhere, the Trust welcomes back their £1.7million surgical robot that had been out on loan.
