Sir David and G7 are worlds apart

- Colin Davies, Liverpool

LET’S hope the G7 leaders gave Sir David Attenborough’s speech their full attention. Now is the time for meaningful action if we are to deal with the biggest threat to our planet and to human existence.

With US President Joe Biden taking a lead on the issue, there is at least hope that the world might at last begin to take it seriously.

Pity the same can’t be said for Boris Johnson, who flew to the G7 in Cornwall in a private plane and wants to commission a new yacht to sail the high seas promoting British trade. What an embarrassment he is on the world stage.

Thank goodness we have someone like Sir David who has the respect of world leaders.

I fear Sir David Attenborough’s address on the need to ensure total global participation to cut carbon emissions will fall on deaf ears. This planet will be irreversibly damaged unless commitment is agreed between all nations and a world charter created to protect it for future generations. Scientific global education and cohesion is the only way to success in this essential endeavour, not polarisation between countries as is happening at present.

Kevin Maguire is correct when he says Boris Johnson is a show pony when we need a thoroughbred (Mirror, June 14). As he says, eventually the public will grow tired of his showboating. By contrast, US President Joe Biden looked like a breath of

fresh air – a principled leader prepared to take a stand. Johnson’s uncooked Brexit deal is regarded with contempt globally and is making us a laughing stock. In fact, everything he has handled up until now has been a disaster.

I live in Cornwall and last week there were helicopters flying around all day, fleets of Range Rovers going to the best hotels and at least 100 minibuses travelling 50 miles a day going to Falmouth with police escorts.

And the G7 leaders claim they are committed to stopping global warming. Bunch of hypocrites. Ian Fleck, Par, Cornwall

What a political pygmy Boris Johnson looked as he stood next to world leaders at the G7.

His idea of leadership is telling people what they want to hear and then doing as he pleases, usually to

the benefit of his rich pals and the detriment of everyone else. By contrast, US President Joe Biden is proving to be a true statesman taking a stance on the global vaccine programme and climate change. How I wish we could have someone like him at No10.

Our esteemed Prime Minister Boris Johnson talks up a storm about saving the planet and reducing our carbon footprint yet he chose to fly to the G7 summit in Cornwall. Is this man for real?

Surely, a car or train would have been more appropriate? Could he be more clueless?

Alan Robinson, Liverpool

I doubt G7 leaders will listen to David Attenborough. I mean, they flew there in gas-guzzling planes.

Like everything, world governments will act only when it’s too late. I fear humankind won’t be around for long. Mother Earth has a habit of regenerating herself.
