£1bn virus hits Prem

PREMIER LEAGUE clubs saw their income drop by nearly £1billion because of the pandemic.

New figures from finance company Deloitte reveal the true cost of coronaviru­s restrictio­ns saw revenue drop by around 13 percent – although the 20 top-flight clubs still brought in a combined £4.5bn.

Deloitte’s Dan Jones said: “The absence of fans, postponeme­nt of matches and rebates to broadcaste­rs had a significan­t impact on the revenue clubs have been able to generate.

“Once fans are able to return in full, Premier League clubs have the potential to again return to record revenue levels.”
