Emi plans Euro push with Villa

- BY JAMES NURSEY

EMILIANO BUENDIA wants to fire Aston Villa into Europe after joining in a club-record £33million deal.

Villa have broken their transfer record to snap up Buendia (above) from promoted Norwich, where he had 15 goals and 16 assists last term.

The Argentine attacking midfielder opted for Villa despite interest from longterm suitors Arsenal.

Now the 24-year-old wants to help Dean Smith’s side climb the table from 11th to qualify for Europe.

Buendia said: “It is a really good step for me. I have really good feelings about the future. I think we will have a very good year.

“I want to help the team with everything – goals, assists and work.

“The project and vision of the club is amazing. We are looking to play in the next year in Europe.”

Buendia has displaced Ollie Watkins as Villa’s record buy in a deal which could rise to nearly £40m with add-ons.

He joins goalkeeper and Argentine compatriot Emiliano Martinez at Villa Park, and added: “It will be my fourth year in England, so I think it will be easy for me to adapt.”
