Scandal could cost Duke colonel title

The Duke of York is said to be desperate to cling on to his position as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards. But his
DENIAL lack of response to a sex abuse lawsuit brought last Monday by Virginia Giuffre, 38, is causing a crisis in his camp.
Aides have privately revealed he cannot continue in the role if he is forced to step back from public life permanently. The 61-year-old has vehemently denied claims made by Ms Giuffre. She is accusing him of sexual abuse and “rape in the first degree” when she was 17 in papers filed in New York.
But a week on, the Duke, 61, has still not issued a public response and her lawyers are accusing him of stonewalling.
A source said one side of his team was advising an immediate response while his lawyers are insisting they have time to go through the claims.
The source said: “Every day there is continued silence is adding to the friction.”
