Docs in bid to be 1st to race over Atlantic

- BY IAN WILLIAMS

A HUSBAND-and-wife team are hoping to become the first married couple to cross the Atlantic in a rowing race.

A&E doctors Charlie Fleury and Adam Baker are preparing to tackle the 3,000-mile Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

Adam is going on the adventure despite suffering serious seasickness.

And the 31-year-olds from Exeter, Devon, aim to research the changes in physiology and psychology between men and women in ultra-endurance events.

Adam said: “I’m looking forward to pushing through our perceived mental barriers and taking on the extremes of the ocean. We will be so remote and constantly exposed to the elements.”

The race starts from The Canaries in December.
