Golden eagle chicks perish

THE first golden eagle chicks to hatch in Orkney for 40 years have died due to the cold weather.

The parents of the birds, born at a nature reserve in May, could not rear them.

A spokesman said: “It isn’t unusual for young birds to make mistakes in early nesting attempts.”
