A RETIRED major duped foreign governments into sending him historic weaponry and tanks.

Michael Whatley said they were for the Household Cavalry museum but kept, sold or traded them.

Whatley, 65, Sandhurst, Berks, who spent 45 years with the regiment, had 23 vehicles delivered.

He admitted misconduct and was given a two year suspended jail term at Salisbury crown court.

Judge Andrew Barnett called him a disgrace.
