THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACNE SCARS

When severe acne spots heal, they can form different kinds of scars

„ Atrophic scars They occur when the skin doesn’t make enough collagen as it heals, so these scars appear as small indentations in the skin. Fibroblasts, cells which form collagen, play a crucial role in wound healing.

„ Hypertrophic scars This scar is due to too many fibroblasts making too much collagen, causing a raised scar.

„ Keloid scars These are similar to hypertrophic scars, but are typically thicker, raised and unsightly. They are usually darker than the surrounding skin and can be itchy or painful.
