THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACNE SCARS
When severe acne spots heal, they can form different kinds of scars
Atrophic scars They occur when the skin doesn’t make enough collagen as it heals, so these scars appear as small indentations in the skin. Fibroblasts, cells which form collagen, play a crucial role in wound healing.
Hypertrophic scars This scar is due to too many fibroblasts making too much collagen, causing a raised scar.
Keloid scars These are similar to hypertrophic scars, but are typically thicker, raised and unsightly. They are usually darker than the surrounding skin and can be itchy or painful.
