COMIC Sean Lock was still joking in the final days before he died of cancer aged 58

Colleague Bill Bailey said of the The 8 Out of 10 Cats star: “We had great conversations and I brought my guitar in and sang him Johnny Cash songs.

“Even in his last days we were still joking, still coming up with ideas.”

Comedian Harry Hill said: “He took his illness in typically dry style.

“I heard he was in a hospice for a bit of rest and called him up. ‘Wow!’ I said. ‘A hospice, what’s that like?’ ‘It’s ok,’ he said, ‘...and the sex is amazing’.”

Other stars were keen to add their tributes. Eddie Izzard said “Sean started in comedy at almost the same time as me.

“I do weird stuff but his was beautifully surreal and I was kind of jealous because his mind jumped around.

“He went to places that none of us were thinking of going to, could have gone to, and he did it in this amazingly deadpan kind of way.” Aisling Bea, who starred alongside Lock on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, spoke of his other side as “a real family man”.

She said: “He loved his wife and kids so much and always talked about them backstage.”

Lock, who died on Wednesday, took family holidays in a VW camper with wife Anoushka Giltsoff and their son and two daughters, who are all under 18.

Chelsea football club also paid tribute to a “much-loved comedian” and “fan of the Blues”.

Jon Richardson, team captain alongside Lock on Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats tweeted: “I idolised Sean long before I became a comedian myself and ten years working alongside him didn’t diminish that in the least.

“I’m devastated for his family and sad for comedy that we have lost one of the very best. Undisputed, undefeated, carrot-in-a box champ. I will miss him.”

Comic Jason Manford wrote on Twitter: “I’m absolutely gutted. So heartbroken for his wife and children.

“One of the funniest men I’ve ever worked with and I used to adore occasionally making him laugh on my first proper telly job, 8 Out of 10 Cats.

“I texted him couple of weeks ago and I’m now so glad I did.

“If you’ve a friend who you’ve not spoken to for a while, just drop them a message. It could be the last time.”

I asked him what the hospice was like and he said ‘It’s okay.. and the sex is amazing’.
