REDS WILL KOP IT AFTER OUR PSG MISERY

Dias: We know how to win at Anfield

RUBEN DIAS says Manchester City will use their Paris disappointment to fire them up against Liverpool at

Anfield on Sunday.

Talk of frying pans and fires seems appropriate for Pep Guardiola’s men

after a Champions League trip to face Lionel Messi’s Paris Saint-Germain dropped in between away games at Chelsea and Liverpool.

But despite a 2-0 defeat in the French capital halting momentum gained at Stamford Bridge where they won 1-0, Dias says they will not be blown off course.

He said: “It affects nothing. Essentially we know what we are capable of, we know our identity and we know what we need to do at Anfield to win.

“It is a loss and we are frustrated but that is the good habit of being a top team. Obviously we will take it but in no time we’ll be there again.”

City flew back from Paris yesterday after a light recovery session and now have three days to prepare for a fixture they won for the first time in 17 years last season.

And while the schedule could have been kinder there will be no excuses.

“If you want to be at the top, if you want to be No.1, you need to play against some of the best,” said Dias. “We are disappointed because we demand everything we can from ourselves, individually and collectively. If we don’t take a win we will never be satisfied. “But now the major focus is on Sunday’s game at Anfield and that is where all our energy will be.”

City were rocked by the magic of Messi (below) on Tuesday with Dias hailing him, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe as the best front line in world football.

But while holding his hands up for two goals conceded, it is at the other end of the pitch that Dias believes City need to sharpen up.

City created plenty of chances but failed to convert any.

Bernardo Silva missed the best, hitting the bar from three yards but there were others including for Dias himself, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne. Guardiola has accepted nights like Paris will intensify criticism about the club’s failure to recruit a world-class striker during the summer.

But Dias suggested it is about team-mates taking the responsibility to be clinical.

“We created chances but we didn’t finish them and on a game like this that has a huge impact,” added Portugal star Dias.

“We all know one goal might have changed it all. We tried but it was not our day. “So we take the goods and the bads and we aim to get better.”
