Health & care will need 1.1m staff increase
MORE than a million extra health and care staff will be needed over the next decade to meet demand.
Some 488,000 additional health workers will be required in England alone, a 40% increase.
And 627,000 extra social care staff will also be called for, boosting numbers by more than half.
Record vacancies and the pandemic have come as many more people live in to old age with multiple health problems.
DAMNING
The damning Health Foundation report has revealed the staffing crisis brought about by Government funding falling behind that of other European countries.
Anita Charlesworth, the Health Foundation director, said: “The money needed to meet pressures in health and social care will need to rise significantly beyond the current settlement, and at an even faster rate in social care.”
Saffron Cordery, NHS Providers’ deputy chief, said: “The gaping chasm between service demand and workforce supply is a huge concern.”
