Raab: Lags could drive our lorries
DOMINIC Raab has said ex-offenders and petty criminals could help to fill labour shortages.
The Justice Secretary suggested letting ex-prisoners and offenders serving community sentences work as HGV drivers and in other roles.
He said: “Why not, if there are shortages, encourage them to do paid work where there’s a benefit for the economy?”
Mr Raab also said he was “open-minded” on lifting a ban on allowing asylumseekers to work in the UK.
But he dismissed Labour’s call for 100,000 migrant visas to alleviate the driver shortage, saying it would “depress wages” for working-class people.
