Dab-hand vet saves eye of sick goldfish
A GOLDFISH’S sight has been saved after an hourlong tumour-removal op.
Caroline McHugh, 35, a veterinary nurse, noticed a red growth on her 12-yearold fish Dotty’s eye.
Vet Lee Shrigley, who performed the tricky surgery, said: “We used the smallest kit that we have to cut around the eye and tie off the blood vessels.
“The tumour was pulling on Dotty’s optic nerve and would have been uncomfortable for her.”
Dotty was sedated with anaesthetic powder in her tank and kept alive during the op with water squirted over her gills.
Lee said she woke up five minutes after the op at McDonald Vets, Glasgow.
She added Dotty was back to “eating and causing trouble” three days later.
