Comic Rob in bad call over Bob’s Live Aid
COMEDIAN Rob Brydon turned down a chance to go to Live Aid in 1985, thinking Bob Geldof ’s charity gig would be a flop.
Around 72,000 people went to Wembley to see performances from acts including Queen, David Bowie and Elton John.
Rob, 56, who was 20 at the time, said: “My girlfriend said, ‘Shall we go?’
“Here’s how good I am at gauging the mood of the nation. I said, ‘Look, I don’t think it’s going to sell.
“‘Because I’ve heard the bands are doing three songs each. I don’t think anybody’s going to want to go if they’re only going to be doing three songs’. “I was very wrong.” The concert, with a twin event in the US, raised more than £100million for famine relief in Ethiopia.
