Mutant gene ‘cure for HIV’
A MUTANT gene found in monkeys and mice could prevent HIV and Ebola, scientists believe.
It stops viruses which have infected a cell from breaking out and multiplying in those nearby.
Dr Nels Elde, who led research at the University of Utah Health in the US, said: “This was an unexpected discovery.
“The gene throws virus replication off its game.”
Co-author Prof Sanford Simon added: “It may give us a new anti-retroviral.”
