Police spend £50,000 on ‘thanks’ gifts
A POLICE force spent nearly £50,000 giving staff and volunteers a commemorative coin.
Thames Valley Police gave out the coins to thank workers for their service during the pandemic.
A Freedom of Information request revealed £44,840 was spent on the coins and £3,075.96 on envelopes to distribute them, along with letters.
An online comment claiming to be from a police officer read: “I’d rather just get the pay rise.
“Equally, I’d rather get a nice torch that actually works or a fleece that’s actually warm.”
Thames Valley Police said it wanted to recognise the “extraordinary efforts” of its staff and volunteers.
