REDEMPTION OF A ROGUE
Cert 15 ★★★★
Jimmy Cullen, back in his Irish hometown and weighed down by some unexplained disgrace from his past, explains that he is buying a rope to hang himself.
“Well then, I suggest you go for the 14mil, ‘tis good and strong,” advises the man in the hardware store. It sets the mood of black humour in Philip Doherty’s surreal, downbeat comedy, where the rain of County Cavan plays best supporting role.
Aaron Monaghan as Jimmy holds it all together with gritty determination and lots of scowls. And he still made me laugh a lot.
