THE CLEANER
BBC1, 9.30pm
Greg Davies’ comedy continues, a less sinister Inside No.9-type anthology series that sees him play a crime scene cleaner confronted by various dubious characters every week.
This is a standout episode, with 79-year-old Stephanie Cole absolutely marvellous as the aristocratic owner of a stately home involved in a burglary gone wrong.
Policewoman Ruth (Zita Sattar) tells cleaner Wicky: “Posh old lady disturbs burglar. He falls down the stairs and
dies. Case closed.” Is it though? The lady is keen to tell Wicky all about her illustrious ancestors, her collection of priceless antiques, and what the world is coming to.
She is also keen to relay her version of events. She feigned passing out and stealthily observed him.
But the monstrous man stood on the sofa – the cheek – and did not reckon on the fact she has maintained senior Pilates.
Wicky soon discovers there’s more to the case than meets the eye. And her offer of a pot of tea won’t help.
