RYDER CUP AGONY OVER FOR HATTON
TYRRELL HATTON put a disappointing Ryder Cup behind him to grab a share of the lead in the first round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Hatton (below) won just one of his four matches at Whistling Straits but seemed revived in Scotland, carding an eight-under-par 64 to share the lead with Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts, Spaniard Adri Arnaus and China’s Li Haotong.
The tournament is being held across three courses in rotation over the opening three days – the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns – with the final round to be played at St Andrews.
Hatton’s European team-mate Tommy Fleetwood fired a 66 but Shane Lowry slumped to a 71 and skipper Padraig Harrington a dismal 75.
