TAARRGHHH! REDS SUFFER TRENT BLOW

Right-back facing spell on sidelines with groin injury

- BY DAVID MADDOCK @MaddockMirror

KOP full-back Trent AlexanderArnold has been ruled out of Liverpool’s epic showdown with Manchester City on Sunday.

Alexander-Arnold will miss the topof-the-table clash with a groin injury that has prevented him from training this week.

And there are fears the 22-year-old could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with England boss Gareth Southgate yesterday omitting him from the England squad following medical reports from the Anfield camp.

Liverpool chief Jurgen Klopp is worried that he may not even be ready for the trip to newly-promoted Watford on October 16, their first match after the international break.

The Champions League visit to Atletico Madrid three days later is more likely to be his target.

Alexander-Arnold (above) missed the 5-1 win at Porto in midweek but played in last Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 draw at Brentford.

James Milner deputised in Portugal and is likely to get the nod on Sunday against City, one of his former clubs, but Wales right-back Neco Williams is back in training and also comes into contention.

Kop midfielder Thiago is also out of the Anfield clash with the defending champions with a calf problem.

The game will see Liverpool pay tribute to club legend Roger Hunt, who died on Monday, with plans to unveil a mosaic on the Kop honouring the record-breaking striker.

Klopp (above) will also pay tribute to the England World Cup winner (left), who scored 285 goals in 492 games for the Reds.

He will lead a minute’s applause from players and fans in recognition of the forward’s contribution.

Liverpool will also invite some of Hunt’s former Anfield team-mates to the game for a ceremony before kick-off.

Hunt, who was 83 when he died, is the club’s record league scorer. His goals took Bill Shankly’s team out of the Second Division to two league titles and a first FA Cup triumph.

Hunt’s Liverpool testimonial, in 1972, attracted a crowd of 56,000 to Anfield.
