KIDS TOLD TO STEER CLEAR OF CAR CRASH

EURO UNDER-21 QUALIFIER

- SIMON BIRD

ANDORRA ENGLAND

kick-off 7.45pm

ENGLAND Under-21 manager Lee Carsley has ordered his kids to avoid another embarrassment against Andorra tonight.

During their last Euros campaign, Aidy Boothroyd’s side drew 3-3 with the minnows in a shock result almost a year ago to the day.

And Carsley (above) says his Young Lions must follow the senior side’s 5-0 demolition job on Saturday and ensure there’s no repeat of their last visit.

He said: “I’m not sure if we did take them lightly last time. I wasn’t at the 3-3 game.

“I remember us really controlling the game, but they were really difficult to break down, and then we ended up getting a scuffed goal.

“They are a banana skin and they are potentially very highly motivated. It’s important that our application and attitude is right towards the game.

“But it will be a tough game for us, similar to Slovenia.

“I think there is sometimes a bit of arrogance of, ‘Oh, we should be beat them’.

“But you’ve got to out-battle your opponent, you’ve got to make sure that you are switched on for 90 minutes and be ready for that part of the game which is important.

“I think Andorra will be highly motivated, I think they’ll want to put on a show because it’s potentially a chance for them to show other teams that they are capable of playing at a higher level.

“We’re under no illusions. Similar to watching the seniors, we can take motivation from that, the way they broke down a low block and took their chances.”

Striker Rhian Brewster is looking to hit the target after an assist in the 2-2 draw with Slovenia last time out.

Brewster admitted: “When the goals are not flying in as they have been before, you think more about shots I used to take quickly or something.

“I’m still getting in the right positions and once I take one, I’ll take two, three, four, five.”
