THE PRESSURE IS ON YOU!

JAMES WILSON turned up the heat on Plymouth’s promotion rivals, insisting: “All the pressure is on you.”

The Pilgrims are fast becoming the surprise package of the season after replacing last term’s brush with relegation for a League One promotion tilt.

Conor Grant and Ryan Broom struck in the first half to extend Plymouth’s unbeaten run to 11 games.

They leapfrogged Sunderland and Wigan as they bid to seal a return to the Championship following an 11-year absence.

Welsh defender Wilson, 32, said: “There’s a lot of pressure on other teams but no pressure on us.

“You have to enjoy these times. But everyone knows there is still loads to do.

“It feels great to be top of the table, but it is early days and we are not going to get carried away.

“We will lose games this season yet, as long as we keep playing the way we are, then we will be there or thereabouts.

“Other teams have got a couple of games in hand of us, but it is better to have points on the board.”

Plymouth have bounced back from an opening-day defeat at Rotherham to take the league by storm.

Wilson put their early-season success down to sticking rigidly to their successful 3-5-2 formation and their raucous supporters.

The former Ipswich defender added: “We always play the same way and it seems to be that other teams change their shape and try and match us up. “Having that identity helps as we always try and play good football. That makes us feel like we are in front at the start of the game.

“I love it here, it is a great club and the fans are brilliant. “Even when Burton scored the goal, the supporters got us going again.

“We are really happy, that’s 11 games unbeaten and we have just got to keep it going,” Lucas Akins pulled one back with Burton’s 700th goal since securing their place in the Football League in 2009.

Striker Akins said: “It would have been better to have achieved that milestone in a game where we got a result.

“We didn’t get to grips with what Plymouth were doing in the first half.

“In all fairness we showed character and commitment in the second.

“We changed formation which helped us get more of a foothold in the match which led to opportunities.

“So it was disappointing not to come away with anything.

“We will take stock, assess the match and hopefully be better when we turn out again on Friday against Morecambe.”
