EAMONN HOLMES’ NEW YEAR RESOLUTION

EAMONN Holmes told viewers he couldn’t sleep before his GB News debut at 6am yesterday.

The veteran host, who quit This Morning last month, said: “I need to make a long-term plan about how to get up in the morning. I didn’t sleep a wink last night. My kids brought me a fancy alarm clock. I couldn’t turn it off.”

Eamonn, 62, co-hosting with Isabel Webster, signed off by saying: “We are coming to the end of our first day – and hopefully not our last day of the GB News breakfast show.”

A regular on This Morning for 15 years, he hosted ITV’s breakfast show GMTV from 1993 to 2005 and Sky News’ Sunrise from 2005 to 2016.

Speaking last week Eamonn told of his sleep woes. He explained: “My big dread about what’s ahead is insomnia and what feels like a ‘sleep hangover’ the next day. With 26 years of breakfast television under my belt, I’ve had more than a few of those.

“This time round, my big new year resolution is to Beat the Sleep.

“I am determined to commit to a routine that ensures I get enough rest, eat well and move more so I feel energised. Project Sleep will be my priority.”

Holmes, from Belfast, is the latest signing to the fledgling channel.

He joins talent including former Sky anchor Colin Brazier, ex-ITV News stalwart Alastair Stewart, former BBC journalist Simon McCoy and ex MP Gloria De Piero.

Eamonn vowed at the start of the show:“We’re going to do news, but we’re going to do news with views. I’m having some lovely messages from people all around the country who are looking forward to whatever we’re going to do differently.”
