Capitol riots ‘threatened democracy’
JOE Biden will today tell of the threat to democracy posed by last year’s deadly assault on the US Capitol.
The US President will speak out a year after Donald Trump’s followers tried to stop the Electoral College vote count as the then-president refused to accept his election defeat.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said: “The President is going to speak to the truth of what happened and the peril it has posed to the rule of law and our system of democratic governance.”
Trump has axed plans to hold a news conference in which he had planned to defend the rioters.
Instead he vowed to discuss the same “important topics” at a rally in Arizona set for January 15.
