ELGAR SETS UP CLASSIC FINISH

-

DEAN ELGAR composed an unbeaten 46 to make South Africa favourites to win the second Test against India – and square the three-match series 1-1 in Johannesburg.

Skipper Elgar (above) saw his team close day three on 118-2 needing another 122 runs to reach their victory target of 240.

Elgar (above) lived up to his reputation as a dogged batsman, scoring patiently as he faced some chin music and was frequently struck on the body by the short ball.

The Proteas eventually dismissed India for 266 some 30 minutes before tea.

On a low-scoring wicket, increasingly favouring the seamers, India still hope to clinch a first series win in South Africa.
