HUGH Hefner wasn’t the only party animal at his mansion – the Playboy founder had so much cocaine there that a pal’s dog got addicted to it.
A poodle owned by one of Hef ’s closest friends loved wolfing down the white powder, a new documentary reveals.
Hefner, who died in 2017 at 91, publicly denied the use of drugs at his homes.
But those who knew him best have told what really went on during bashes at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles.
His ex-girlfriend Sondra Theodore, 65, said: “There was drugs everywhere.
“John Dante was Hef ’s best friend and Dante had a dog, Louis, who was a tiny poodle [who] got hooked on cocaine.
“The dog could smell it from across the room. A very famous person walked into the house one night and that little dog jumped off the couch like super dog, flew to that person and was licking her up the nose.
“And she goes ‘[This dog] just loves me’... and we are all going ‘yeah sure’. [We] knew why that dog was on her. He had to lock that dog up when people were around because he was addicted to cocaine.”
She added: “And people you would not think would be doing it, were doing it.”
US model Sondra, who was Hefner’s girlfriend from 1976 to 1981, added: “I was afraid to speak up... Hef used cocaine. He used more than that – he had a drawer full of
drugs.” She also told the Secrets of Playboy documentary series that Hefner used her as a drug mule and that she picked up substances for him “countless times”.
Sondra said she and others did it for him “because we had to do what he wanted, like puppets”.
She added: “It made me feel like I was important to him. I was told it was in the name of love.” PJ Masten, the former Bunny Mother at Playboy clubs, said drugs were rife at celebrity-filled parties that Hefner threw.
She added: “At the time I was in LA there were huge vials of cocaine.”
Lisa Loving Barrett, Hef’s assistant from 1977 to 1989, revealed the boss had a stash of Quaaludes, a sedative and hypnotic drug, in his bedroom to hand to women to make them sexually open.
She added: “Quaaludes... we called them leg spreaders. They were a necessary evil to the partying.
“We’d have prescriptions in some of our names. We gave them directly to Hef.
“There was a Dexedrine which he took, which was a speed and amphetamine. I think it was fuel.
“Cocaine was a big deal. At a couple of the larger parties, there was a downstairs powder room... underneath the ornate toilet paper holder was a pile of cocaine.”
Rod O’Connor, a former detective in Chicago, said Hefner’s operation in the city was also centred on drug parties.
Secrets of Playboy, the 10-part TV documentary series, begins on the A&E network on January 24.
